Types Of Hair Loss

While there are multiple variations, the 5 types of Alopecia are Androgenic alopecia, Alopecia areata, Telogen effluvium, Traction alopecia, and Cicatricial alopecia

Alopcia areata

An autoimmune disease that attacks your body's hair follicles, causing patchy hair loss

Telogen effluvium

A common, temporary form of hair loss where a significant number of hair follicles prematurely shift from the growing phase to the resting phase, leading to excessive shedding often after a body stressor like illness, childbirth, surgery, or extreme dieting.

Anagen effluvium

A temporary type of hair loss that happens when something disrupts the growth phase of your hair, most common after chemotherapy, but can also follow radiation or toxin exposure.

Traction alopecia

Hair loss from constant pulling on hair follicles, common with tight hair styles like braids, ponytails, or weaves, often appearing as receding hairline or thinning at the temples and nape.

Androgenic alopecia

The most common form of hair loss, caused by a genetically

predetermined disorder due to an excessive response to androgens aka male pattern baldness.

Cicatricial alopecia

A group of rare inflammatory disorders that destroy hair follicles and replace them with scare tissue, causing permanent, often patchy hair loss.
